A Public Private Dialogue (PPD) on Draft Trade Dispute Resolution Act 2016 was organized on February 10, 2016 ,in Islamabad by PITAD in collaboration with ITC and Trade Dispute Resolution Organisation under the auspices of EU, funded TRTA-II Programme. The aim of the PPD was to solicit the input and feedback from Private Sector,through their trade bodies (chambers of commerce & industries/ trade associations etc.) and public sector concerned agencies.The PPD was attended by over 140 stakeholders from the public and private sectors
The inaugural session was chaired by the Minister of Commerce, Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan. Mr. AzharAli Chaudhary, DG, PITAD, gave the brief overview of the PPD, and PITAD´s collaboration with International trade Center. The Ambassador of European Union, H.E. Jean-Francois Cautain, apprised the participants of EU's efforts in strengthening its relationship with Pakistan. Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan, Minister for Commerce, while giving his keynote address, acknowledged the efforts of EU in helping Pakistan to improve its trade competitiveness and appreciated TRTA-II Programme. Touching upon the importance of Draft TDR law,the Minister expected that it would be a big step in improving the trade governance of Pakistan. He expressed the resolve of the federal government to table the Draft TDR Bill in the parliament this year.
The Secretary Commerce, Mr. Muhammad ShehzadArbab, gave the concluding remarks of the final session .The Secretary stated that the idea behind Draft DRO law was to put Pakistan at par with the international community on trade related laws. Detailed draft is present on TDRO website
