De-Briefing To Director General, PITAD By Dr. Ian Goulding, International Expert On SPS and Food Safety Issues
Dr. Ian Goulding, International Expert, SPS and Food Safety visited Pakistan from 25th September, to 12th October, 2015. The visit was arranged by UNIDO under TRTA-II Programme. He visited various Stake-holders across the country, for his activities. At the end of his visit he de-briefed Director General, PITAD Mr. Azhar Ali Choudhrey in a meeting in UNIDO office, Islamabad. The de-briefing session was also attended by Mr. Umar Dad Afridi, Director, PITAD, Mr. Bruno Valanzuolo, CTA, Mr. Ali Abbas Qazilbash and Miss Maryam Saba, A.N.E. The D.G was informed about the activities undertaken by Mr. Ian Goulding which included efforts to get draft NAPHIS bill into act of Parliament. He held discussion with KPK Food Safety Authority and University of Agriculture, Peshawar regarding launching of Post Graduate Diploma course in Food Safety and control. He further informed that Food Safety Authority, KPK has already been established by an act of Provincial Assembly in 2014. This act will be implemented by an autonomous body being created under provincial Food Department. The consultant also met with Acting DG, Punjab Food Authority, management and inspectors, and gathered updated data across the full range of activities; legislation, inspections, check lists, operational procedures, inspection methods, results in terms of notices served, fines, closures of premises. The actable recommendations were prepared. In the case of the inspection system (risk profiling, checklists, non-compliance responses). The recommendations were refined and agreed with 22 Food Safety Officers(FSOs) during the training workshops. The draft report was submitted to the official of Punjab Food Authority. The training was also delivered to 22 FSOs and AFOs.
