Meeting of Mr. Azher Ali Choudhry, Director General, PITAD with International Expert Mr. Manuel Albaladejo on Global Value Chain Analysis on 5th October, 2015
Mr. Manuel Albaladejo, International Expert on Global Value Chain Analysis accentuated the importance of the Global Value Chain Analysis and briefed that the competitiveness analysis is one of the essential tools in policy formulation which ensures the effective allocation of development resources to benefit the private sector for enhanced export.
He further added that in order to maintain competitiveness in the export markets the monitoring and assessment of global and regional trends in trade and industry is required. The results of such analysis will then be used for decisions on policy and strategies of the country with regards to industry and trade.
In this connection, he apprised that TRTA II programme has launched a pilot initiative on Value Chain Analysis for Competitiveness. The program would conduct a broad institutional mapping of all public and private institutions that could adopt Value Chain methodology and would also indentify the priority sectors based on potential for economic growth, employment and export.
The central objective of this program is to raise awareness on industrial and trade competitiveness, training of professionals to independently carry out value chain analysis for product sectors and setting up an institutional unit staffed by trained professional, which in turn will provide policy advice to the government for enhanced industrial competitiveness.
