13th Public Private Dialogue was held on 7th October, 2015
13TH Public Private Dialogue (PPD) on "Beyond the GSP plus: maintaining the status and enhancing trade with the EU" was held on 7th October, 2015 at Marriot Hotel under the auspices of International Trade Centre (ITC) in collaboration with PITAD.
The inaugural session was broached by the welcome address and the background of the Public Private Dialogue initiative by Mr. Muhammad Owais Khan, Programme Officer, ITC/TRTA II followed by the opening remarks by Co-chair of the Public Private Dialogue Steering Committee (PPDSC) Mr. Azher Ali Choudhry, Additional Secretary (MoC)/DG PITAD.
Mr. Johan Sorenson, Head Political, Trade and Communication Section, EU Delegation highlighted the mutual importance of GSP+ status to the Pakistan and EU.
Mr. Mohammad Shehzad Arbab, Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, graced the occasion as a chief guest, accentuated the importance of GSP+ status. He further emphasized on the implementation of the core 27 UN Conventions which are mandatory for Pakistan to maintain GSP+ status.
The technical session was started with a presentation on research study by Mr. Tippu Sultan, Independent Consultant, International Trade Centre (ITC) EU funded TRTA II programme. Mr. Sultan overviewed the preferences schemes of the EU with special emphasis on GSP+ Status to the Pakistan. He apprised that the economy of Pakistan in general and textile sector in particular witness a noticeable boom by reason of the GSP+ Status. He further pointed out sectors of Pakistan with huge potential which are needed to be explored. Lastly, he suggested recommendations and strategies to be followed by the Government in order to reap the maximum benefits of the GSP+ status.
The presentation was followed by the comments and suggestions of the expert panel comprising of the following members, namely:

After the comments of the experts´ panel, open house discussion was held wherein stakeholders from Public as well as Private sector participated vehemently.
